Before making a software install request, make sure that it or a comparable
package is not already installed. Click here to view installed
software packages.
Request Deadlines and Timetables
Note: These deadlines and timetables account for software installation and testing only. The
requester should plan additional time for obtaining and licensing the software. Unless otherwise
noted, software requests received by these deadlines will be available one week prior to the
beginning of the semester for testing purposes.
Beginning of Spring: December 15th
Beginning of Summer: May 1st
Beginning of Fall: August 1st
Request Policies
We will make every attempt to accomodate the needs of the students and faculty regarding
software installations. However, a request does not guarantee installation. At the minimum, each
request must meet the following guidelines:
- Only software necessary for the completion of College of Architecture coursework will be considered.
File sharing, instant messaging and gaming software, etc., will not be installed.
- All licensing issues, including the source of funding and number of licenses required, should be resolved
at least 30 days before the software is needed. See Software Licensing for more details
on licensing requirements.
- As we are unfamiliar with the detailed workings of many of these packages, the requester should
be available prior to software rollout to test it and ensure it is functioning properly.
- New software must function properly in conjunction with currently installed software as well as our
method of installation. New software that causes existing software to function improperly or that cannot be cloned
(i.e. must be installed on each machine individually) will not be installed until these issues are resolved. This will likely result in a delay in getting the software deployed in the Langford Computing Labs.
Software Licensing
All software must be properly licensed before it can be installed on any College of Architecture computer. While
getting a price quote from the software vendor and securing funding for the licenses can be done ahead of time, we
strongly recommend waiting until we have verified that the software will work on our lab machines before the
final purchase is made.
As a rule, enough licenses must be purchased to accommodate an entire lab, as all machines in a
given lab are configured identically. We have 24 machines in 107A, 30
in 107B, and 36 in 119. If the manufacturer allows concurrent-use licensing and the software can be properly keyed
to run with Keyserver, then this is not an issue. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Request Procedure
- Determine the number of licenses you need, how these licenses will be funded, and where you will obtain them.
- Read all information on this page regarding deadlines, policies, and licensing.
- Bring a copy of the software on disk to Dan Basile in Room 122.
- Once we have verified that the software will work on our machines and all licensing issues are addressed,
a software installation package will be created and the software will be added to the lab computers.
Failure to follow this procedure could result in delays in getting your software installed.
